MahatmaGandhi Jayanti Anniversary 2022: Today is the birth anniversary of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi also known as Bapu, one of the major heroes of India's freedom struggle. Gandhi was born on 2 October 1869. The country will never forget Gandhiji's contribution for centuries. His ideal, the lesson of non-violence, the inspiration to walk on the path of truth, displayed the country as a strong resolve in front of the British government. People also know Gandhi ji as Bapu, Mahatma Gandhi and the father of the nation. His whole life is a message for every citizen, he inspires to walk on the right path.

Gandhiji is followed not only by Indians, but in many countries around the world. People adopt the concepts given by Mahatma Gandhi in their entire lives. But how did an ordinary citizen, Mahatma Gandhi, become the Father of the Nation of India? Why and how did Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi become Mahatma Gandhi, who never achieved a great position in politics? Gandhi was born in Porbandar, Gujarat. He was not a brilliant student in studies since childhood. Used to be weak in maths and geography. His handwriting was also not beautiful. he was often scolded for his studies and handwriting. Although he was a proficient student in English. Due to his good knowledge of English, he had received many awards and scholarships from various programs.

When he was just 13 years old, he was married off to Kasturba, the daughter of a merchant family from Porbandar. Kasturba was 6 months older than Mahatma Gandhi. After that, at the age of one year, Gandhiji became the father of a son. But his son was not alive. Later Kasturba and Gandhiji had four sons, whose names were Harilal, Manilal, Ramlal and Devdas. Gandhiji went abroad to study after marriage, from where he came back after completing study of law.

After returned home and took part in the freedom struggle. During this, Kasturba continued to support him. In 1919, Gandhiji protested against the Rowlatt Act , Act of the British. There was a provision in this act to send a person to jail without trial. After that Gandhiji announced Satyagraha against the wrong law and working style of the British.

  • In 1906, Mahatma Gandhi launched the first Satyagraha against the Trasval Asiatic Registration Act.
  • Gandhiji launched the Salt Satyagraha on 12 March 1930 against the British monopoly on salt, in which he marched for 24 days from Sabarmati Ashram near Ahmedabad to Dandi village.
  • Started 'Dalit Movement', 'Non-Cooperation Movement', 'Civil Disobedience Movement', 'Dandi Yatra' and 'Quit India Movement' for the independence of the country.

After Gandhi's movements, he started becoming famous all over the countries. Many famous and big party leaders were influenced by Gandhiji’s concepts and respected him. Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was one of them. Mahatma Gandhi was addressed as the Father of the Nation for the first time on 6 July 1944 through Rangoon radio station. Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was the one who called Gandhi the Father of the Nation.

During that time Netaji had founded the Azad Hind Fauj and sought the blessings of Mahatma Gandhi through radio stations. At the end of his speech, Subhas Chandra Bose said, 'Our Father of the Nation, Ma'am I am seeking your blessings and best wishes in the holy fight for India's freedom.'

After so many contributions of many freedom fighters including Gandhiji was successful and on 15 August 1947, India got independence. After that, on 30 January 1948, Gandhiji was encountered by Nathuram Godse at Birla Bhawan in New Delhi. The life of this great personality who gave the message of non-violence came to an end. With this, Mahatma Gandhi, who was called the Father of the Nation for the first time by Netaji, became the Father of the Nation for every citizen of the country.
